Woodchop Competition
This ever-popular event highlights the amazing skills, strength, and precision of competitive woodchoppers.
Members of all ages from the Queensland Axemen Association will demonstrate their expertise in a variety of chopping disciplines, making for an exciting highlight of the Rockhampton Show that celebrates the tradition and craftsmanship of this time-honoured sport.

What will spectators see?
Experience the thrill of live action as the axemen front up with sharpened axes in hand at the Cremorne Lawn near Gate 1.
Each contestant brings their own technique and style, making for a captivating display of strength and skill.
Woodchopping has a long and proud history, from the earliest days when felling and gathering timber was necessary for daily living, this competitive sport is said to have developed from an 1873 bet between two blokes in a pub!
Be sure to cheer on the competitors and experience the excitement of the competition!
How is the Woodchop Competition judged?
The Queensland Axemens Association supports and endorses the Woodchop Competition, and each event is judged on several criteria, including speed, technique, and accuracy.
